3-3 draw. Thorpe went 1-0 up after an error at the back. 1-0 half time.
Thorpe went 2-0 up after 55 minutes with a deflected header.
Kartiers conitinued to dominate and went 3-2 up with 5 minutes to play thanks to goals from Ward, Scouse and Glen.
Thorpe managed to get a very late equaliser with a 30 yards effort which flew into the top corner!!!
Kartiers played some excellant football throughout the game and truely deserved the win but a young Thorpe side battled until the end. |

Only saw the 1st half, but the standard was high. Kartiers deserved so much more at half time. Easily helped with the addition of a number of quality 1st team players.
And one Rowley shot was only matched by a truly brilliant save by the Thorpe Goal keeper. |

Kartiers Reserves 3 v Thorpe United Reserves 3
This was the first of 3 meetings between these side in the next 6 weeks and honours were all even in this first encounter even thought the host controlled the game for long periods.
Manger Carl Marran choose to keep the same formation of 4-5-1 but made three changes to the starting line up from the previous weeks defeat at York St Johns. Rowley and Webb (Ctr Mid) with Jackson (forward) all starting in place of Stephenson (first team call up), Ward and Taylor (N) who were demoted to the bench.
The game started as you would expect, with plenty of huff and puff but there was no fluency to either teams play. This however changed on the 10 minute mark when the game sprung into life.
Brown was taking up some great positions and it was his movement that created a decent chance for Rowley on 10 minutes. The midfield man controlled well after receiving the ball 18 yards from goal but his shot was brilliantly palmed away well by Thorpe Keeper Dave laverack
Kartiers were now playing there best football of the season but still the chances continued to be wasted. Littlewood was next to have a pop after beating his man in the box, but the wide man had a rush of blood to the head and his effort was more of a worry to the School Caretaker than the Laverack
There was a scare at the other end when Pickles (S) was fouled 20 yards out by Hawe. Pickles duly took the resultant Free-kick and beat the wall but his effort drifted wide of the far post that Aldridge had covered.
Jackson then forged a chance for Maher but again Laverack thwarted them with a brave save in a crowded area.
Then, nightmare for the host at the other end when Taylor (P) lingered on the ball and allowed Danny Coult through on goal. He showed great calmness before firing across Aldridge into the far corner to open the scoring totally against the run of play.
A further set back for Kartiers followed as Webb as the ref adjudge that he had committed a four, but the Thorpe player took matters into his own hands and stamped on Webb. An incident that was bizarrely not seen though by the official who was no more the 5 yards away. This resulted in Webb having to leave the field with a torn anterior ligament to the right ankle!
Marran was forced to reshuffle the pack and Ward went onto right of midfield with Littlewood re-placing Webb in the centre.
Half time gave an irate Marran chance to calm down his troops as they looked to get back into a game they had bossed.
Ward set about causing more havoc down the right with a couple of weaving runs straight from the restart, and on a couple of occasion he released Deuce but the nightmare in front of goal continued for the host, when both his efforts beat the keeper, but then the woodwork intervened.
Thorpe broke free and Sowden saw his effort turned away for a corner by Aldridge. From the corner another inviting opportunity fell this time to Sam Squires after Kartiers failed to deal with Pickle’s well flighted corner. The subsequent header looped over Aldridge to give the visitors a truly unbelievable 2-0 lead!!!
With Kariters looking for the opening to get back into the match. Marran threw Singh into the frey on 60 minutes as he replaced Brown on the left wing and he soon found Jackson feet, but again Thorpe snuffed out any danger.
Then it happened. On 70minutes. Kartiers got the all imported goal that their overall play had warranted through winger Ward. Jackson held off numerous defenders before intelligently finding the unmarked Ward who beat Laverack with a 20-yard shot.
One soon became two and the scores when level with a near carbon copy move set Maher free. This time it was Littlewood who rode three challenges before finding Maher who fired home into the same bottom corner.
This gave the home team the platform to go on for the winner, but it was Thorpe who were immediately presented with a gilt-edged chance to restore their lead, but then Kernaghan contrived to miss when it seemed easier to find the net.
Time was now ticking away as both team pressed for a winner. Maher Floated in another corner for the host which was only half cleared and Rowley saw his volley ricochet of Singh before the ever alert Littlewood slooted home the rebound. Advantage beavers for the first time in the match.
From the restart Thorpe were being forced deeper and deeper, though the occasional counter-attack hinted at what was to come. More heroics were around the corner as Birch made a last-ditch tackle to deny Taylor (N).
A fatigued Deuce then left the field and this forced Marran to change certain personnel around. But nothing could have been done about the last minute Thorpe equaliser on 90 minutes. Kernaghan beat the unfortunate Aldridge with a thunderous 30-yard striker that 2 keepers would have struggled to keep out.
This was a highly entertaining game that Kartiers dominated for large periods and on another day it could quite easily won 8-3. |
