Huntington rovers 1-0 Kartiers

a dour game played in incredibly difficult conditions summed up a disappointing afternoon for the Karts second string.

A host of late call ups to the first team literally left manager Marran in an impossible selection situation with players dropping out on Saturday morning.

Having lost both Rhodes, Rowley, Hawe, Cooper & Blackwell the team was seriously understrength. In a desparate attempt to get something out of the game, Marran risked Brown & Webb both on the road back from injury. 4 players made their Karts debuts this season as every last one of the available players was dragged out to make up the numbers.

with a strong wind gusting from goalmouth to goalmouth Karts decided to kick with the wind and set about the Huntingon team with Maher a constant threat chasing through balls, whilst Duce and Fisk stopped any thing coming their way. Blundell in nets was finding Webb from his goal kicks and it was the latter who went close from two corners, both front post crosses in the conditions, both agonisingly close and missing final touches.

Huntington tackled the wind well and were trying to play football, however their goal came from a mix up between Duce and blundell where a lack of communication led to the ball falling neatly to the Hunt forward who calmly lifted the ball into the open goal.

Karts had the majority of the play in the first half but the final ball never quite came off.

The second half kicked off with a change of personnel- blundell being replaced in goal and moving up front. Osbourne taking his place in nets with one of the debutants making way for blundell.

The second half was backs to the wall, with Huntington unable to use the wind to their advantage. Karts had a couple of good chances, a bursting run from Duce was laid off to webb whos pass found blundell a great header down left Tessyman with an opening but the shot lacked any power.

Webb limped off on the hour which allowed Duce to push into midfield where he could influence the game more.

Blundell looked full of running and caused Huntington problems whenever he could, however the equaliser almost came after a singh run on the left, a turn and 'cross' curled onto the inside of the post and agonisingly rolled across the line and out.

The effort of some of the karts team took its toll with Fisk cramping up in both legs.

Alas it was not to be, however with a full strength team this would have been a very different result!

MOM - Dan Fisk
