Dunnington Res 1- 1 Kartiers Res
An easter bank holiday weekend proved difficult to get a second string team out, with no fewer than three kartiers players making their first league appearances since signing on in august.
League debuts were given to Martyn Rhodes and Andy (the eagle) Edwards and Tom Osborne last seasons 1st team keeper who played outfield.
The instructions were given to just go out there and enjoy themselves and play with pride and a smile on your face (pub team talk) seemed to work as everyone put in a good shift and can walk tall after a truly great point against last years champions.
It was kartiers who seemed more threatening in the early exchanges, two great flighted corners from Gareth Rhodes heaped a lot of pressure on the dunnington goal, one of which fell to Stuart winter who planted his header on target from the penalty spot only to see it cleared.
However dunnington did have chances of their own and twice Aldridge pulled of two great saves to keep his side in it.
A cruel blow on 44 mins saw dunnington take the lead when Osborne appeared to be fouled after the centre forward upended him but play was allowed to continue and resulted in the perpetrator slotting the ball past the kartiers goalkeeper.
The second half was a pleasure to watch as the football tried to be played was what the manager was asking for short give n go’s and pull the dunnington rear guard out of position and then clever through balls.
The equaliser duly arrived on 60 mins when a through ball had the dunnington keeper come 25yds out of his net and slice his clearance which left Martyn Rhodes with the task of rolling the ball into the unguarded net.
What followed was two teams trying to get the result and to be fair kartiers where pretty much pinned back for the last 10 mins of this encounter.
Chuffed to bits was how manager Carl Marran described his teams efforts, “it just goes to show how important the depth of the squad is, both teams had a lot of unavailability of key players but the lads who replaced them really give me a lot to think about and acquitted themselves superbly” |
