Kartiers 2nd XI 2 v Wigginton Grasshoppers 2nd XI 2
Kartiers went into this game after a late pitch inspection on the Bowling Green, ruled the match was fine to go ahead. Thus meaning the 2nd XI could play on the field of dreams for only the 2nd time in two and half months.
The home team had the now customary weekly selection problems as Hewitt C, Gatenby (Injured) Fisk, Towle (Work) and Coulthard (Gunner) all missed the match.
This in turn saw the return of Richardson, Ward, Wolsic and Wright.
The Beavers started in positive fashion and retained the ball with ease in the early exchanged. Brown, Wolsic and Grundy (T) all saw plenty of the ball early on, and the host duly took an early lead when Wolsic cleverly created space for Mleczek. Mleckzek then beat his marker before firing home from an acute angle to take his tally for the season to 13 goals.
The lead was then doubled as Wolsic and Mleczek again combined well, before the later found Grundy. He composed himself before firing across the keeper into the far left hand corner for his first goal since early October. Tessyman, Mleczek, and Wolsic all had chances to increase the lead but minutes before the interval Wigginton reduced the arrears after a mix up in the Kartiers ranks.
The Second half saw the introduction of Wright and he looked bright as he combined well Healey and Wolsic, however the beavers were creating but missing a host of chances. These misses proved to be costly as with moments to go the Kartiers as a team switched off and Wigginton grabbed a priceless equliser. Young Keeper Calvert who had been outstanding all day had no chance as the ball was rifled into the net.
Singh suffered a hand injury during the game and following an x-ray it was revealed that he badly broke a finger and will have to see a specialist.
Assistant Manager Martin O’Neil commented after the game. “The lads are devastated that we let the lead slip, but we have to take away the positives. Our overall play in the last couple of weeks has been much more encouraging and you can see the confidence growing in the players. Calvert and Wolsic were fantastic and both Tom Grundy, Greg Mleczek were back to the form they showed at the start of the season”

Kartiers 2nd XI v Dunnington 2nd XI
Saturday 28 Feb 2009
Kick off 14:00
Ground - Bowling Green - Selby (subject to pitch inspection)
Lost 1-2
Goal from Grzegorz Mleczek
Kartiers started the game with only 2 changes to the starting line up for the previous weeks draw with Grasshoppers.
Singh (Injured) & Richardson (Work) were replaced by Fisk and Hewitt (D), while Gatenby was fit again to take his place on the bench.
The host had an ideal opportunity to take all 3 points as Dunnington were reduced to 10 men with the game only five minutes old. The Dunnington forward lost control and head butted Fisk, leaving the young Kartiers defender blooded and clearly shook up. Referee Finch was left with no choice but show a straight red for the assault!
Kartiers however, never took advantage of the extra numbers and simply played into the hands on the hard working visitors. The second half produced some simply shambolic marking as Dunnington scored twice from set pieces as on both occasions two players were left unmarked to give Dunnignton a two goal lead. Mleczek scored a late goal to reduce arrears, but it was all too little to late.
Singh was quoted as saying “The 10 Dunnington players that finished the game, showed what can be achieved if you work hard as a team, it’s a lesson we must learn and quick. After the sending off, too many of our lads thought it was going to be easy and went through the motions.” |
